China should set clear goals to better promote its films to the world market, industry insiders said at a forum attended by Chinese and European film producers yesterday.

Held at Crown Plaza Hotel, the forum was initiated by the European Producer Club and was a key event of the 10th Shanghai International Film Festival.

Film producers, distributors and buyers from countries such as China, France and Spain discussed about the introduction of foreign films to Chinese market and the distribution of Chinese films into foreign countries.

The discussion covered a wide range of topics, including China' s regulations on the introduction of foreign films and how to achieve box office success in China.

Chinese and European film producers also held separate talks on cooperation after the meeting.
" China' s economy is growing rapidly and we are paying more attention to Chinese market, " said Jean Cazes, president of the European Producer Club.

" More and more foreigners are getting interested in China and want to better learn the country through its film, with China' s economy growing rapidly and the upcoming Beijing Olympics and World Expo 2010, " said Lin Mi, president of a Beijing-based cultural promotion company.

" However, China lacks real qualified film producers and many domestic producers have failed to set clear goals for their films. We hope the situation will improve, "  said Lin.

Chinese films have achieved great success on overseas market. Domestic films such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon(2000) , Hero (2002) and House of Flying Daggers (2004) have won international attention.
