written by Susan Xu From November 22 to December 2, a Chinese film delegation organized by CFCC made a ten-day trip to India for the 38th International Film Festival of India and Hollywood industry research. The delegation, consisting of professionals from Changchun Film Group, Shanghai Film Group, Tianjin Film Studio, Ningxia Film Studio, Film Bureau and CFCC, were much sought by Indian filmmakers at Film Bazaar and Keynote Forum which run for three days. At Film Bazaar the delegation met and discussed with over 30 Indian film co-producers who had prepared a dozen of film projects with co-production potentialities. Interestingly, quite a few of the proposed subjects feature Chinese elements and are designed to be shot in mainland China. In addition, at the panel of Keynote Forum Chinese film industry was most talked about as comparison to the Indian counterpart, which is quite informative and encouraging to the delegation. After the film festival, the delegation headed to Bollywood and visited Sippy Entertainment, R.K.Studios, YRF Studios, Film City, Fame Cineplex and traditional single-screen cinema Eros. Sippy Entertainment is currently preparing an action comedy entitled as MADE IN CHINA, the ever first Indian film to be shot in mainland China in February 2008. The delegation and Sippy Entertainment shared a lot about the collaboration on the current project and more in future. The delegation also made a tour to R.K.Studios which produced AWARA. Decades ago AWARA made a huge hit across mainland China and almost every Chinese was able to hum the theme song of the film. Ningxia Film Studio is now working on a project named IN SEARCH FOR RAJ. Raj was the name of the protagonist of AWARA. The film is expected to bring the old memory and new sensibility together, making a romantic love story inspired by AWARA . The delegates were much impressed by the state-run Film City which was hosting quite a number of film and TV crews at same time. In Fame Cineplex the delegation even got chance to view the box office hit OM SHANTI OM! which proves very entertaining and engaging. Eros presents the standard of quality theatre in old Bollywood. Its stalls and wood chairs impressed the delegates with a sense of time honour. The delegates feel that it is high time for the two countries to work together for film co-production. A governmental treaty on film co-production which is under negotiation will add an impetus to the joint endeavour.
