Synopsis:
An Rome born boy Luca is facinated by Asian culture. He comes to study Chinese in Taiwan without telling his family. One day he pumps into the flea market and sees old camera. The owner of the camera, an aged man, takes Luca to his home where he finds a roll of 8mm negatives. From the negatives, Luca discovers a group of people with Chinese features but blonde hair and green eyes. Out of curiosity, Luca launches a journey to Central China where the film is shot. He feels so close to this lost civilization when he realizes that his ancestors were living here after an expedition to Oriental land centuries ago.
Director's Statement:
I'm very interested in transnational subjects since I often come across foreigners studying Chinese in Taiwan and I myself once studied in Italy. Last year a DNA test shows that, in Gansu Province of China, a group of people with Chinese feature but golden hair and blue eyes have proved to be European blood related. This amazing news has inspired me to create the story.
There must be something which never change with this ever changing world. Self-discovery is one of such things. I hope to make the film in a documentary style, natural tone, with impromptu performance by unprofessionals. The film will be designed to demonstrate different cultures and customs of Taiwan, Chinese mainland and Italy, by which the audiences from West and East can both identify.
Director's Biography
Shu-fang Sun, graduated from Accademia Cappiello, Firenze, Italy Independent filmmaker, worked in JWT Advertising AAD£¯Rock TV, Sun Movie and Super TV as Director, On-Air Promotion Producer, has been involved in TV/Film production for years. Recently, having worked as cross-region project producer and artist, with titles including Non Solo La Vita, Ping-Fong Troupe, Wedding Memories, and The Hospital.
