Synopsis:
Based on the famous novel of the Nakajima, Atsushi's masterpiece, Liliang, this film will tell a tragic story about the great statesman Liliang living in Wu Di Reign of the Han Dynasty.
Liliang leads his punitive force forward to the northern desert to fight against Hun but failed. He becomes a captive. As a prisoner of Hun, Liliang is unexpectedly well treated, which presents a totally different life for him to reach. The film will look at the protagonist's identity, life in exile, and relationship with Emperor Wu Di of Han, Sima Qian the historian, and Su Wu the lost hero.
Director's Statement:
This project has been developed for 10 years. With a strong team including Chinese screen writer Wei Lu and Japanese producer Satoru Iseki, Koizumi is going to direct his first Chinese language film. Koizumi wants to make Liliang a cross-culture epic drama highlighted with human sensibility and empathy.
Beijing Polybona International film and Xi'an Film Studio have worked together for this project. Lu Wei, now working on the script, has met with Director Koizumi for many times and are both committed to make the film a great appeal to the entire Asian audiences.
Director's Biography
After graduation from Waseda University, Koizumi started to work as an assistant director of Akira Kurosawa for 28 years. His directorial debut Ame Agaru is based on the script written by late Kurosawa, and won many awards. His other three features have all achieved great success across Japan.

His credits include Smoke and The Emperor and the Assassin. His latest works include Battle of Wits, the biggest HK/Mainland China/Korea/Japan co-production of 2006.
